Egypt authorizes 21 citizens to take foreign nationalities while keeping Egyptian citizenship

Egypt's Interior Ministry has authorized 21 citizens to acquire foreign nationalities while retaining their Egyptian citizenship, in a decision published Thursday in the Official Gazette.

• The Official Gazette published Interior Ministry Decision No. 1631 of 2026 granting the authorization to the 21 citizens.
• Under the 1975 Egyptian Nationality Law, acquiring foreign nationality requires ministerial permission; without it Egyptians retain their status unless the Cabinet orders revocation.
• The decision allows the citizens, their spouses, and minor children to keep Egyptian nationality if they declare that intent within one year of acquiring the foreign nationality.
