Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has demanded the Bank of England return Venezuela's 31 tons of gold, frozen in London since 2018.
- Rodríguez said "enough excuses, enough stealing of our gold," stating the metal "belongs to Venezuelans, not the Bank of England."
- She instructed the foreign ministry and attorney general's office to take action through appropriate channels to secure the gold's return.
- The Bank of England has held the 31 tons since London refused to recognize Nicolás Maduro's 2018 re-election.
- The demand follows an August agreement between the interim government and part of the opposition to recover the gold for victims of two June earthquakes.
