Russia's independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta has announced it will shut down, citing pressure from the Russian authorities and special services.
- Editor-in-chief Sergei Sokolov said the Russian authorities and special services forced the editorial team to end its work.
- Sokolov said the newspaper will turn off its lights, shut down its servers and leave its offices on November 9.
- Sokolov was questioned and his home searched in October over a criminal case involving colleague Oleg Roldugin, who faces charges of unlawful access to computerised information.
- The newspaper had already had its media licence revoked, its website blocked and been designated a foreign agent.
