The UK has barred Swedish climate academic Andreas Malm from entering the country days before a London panel with a Palestine Action co-founder.
- The Home Office cancelled Malm's Electronic Travel Authorisation on Wednesday, saying his presence in the UK was "not conducive to the public good."
- Malm said the decision stemmed from his scheduled panel appearance with Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori, calling it "guilt by association."
- Malm denied membership in or support for Palestine Action but acknowledged describing the 7 October 2023 attacks on Israel as "fundamentally an act of liberation."
- The Home Office said it does not comment on individual cases.
- Malm condemned the ban as a 'drift into authoritarianism,' saying he had been kept in the dark over the reasons.
- Author Sally Rooney and Green Party leader Zack Polanski condemned the ban as an attack on free speech.
