Emiliano Martinez revealed he played the entire World Cup with a broken finger after refusing surgery to remain available for Argentina.
- Martinez said he broke the finger in May's Europa League final and, consulting goalkeeping coach Martin Tocalli and team doctor Dani Martinez, chose to postpone surgery.
- He said the bone is now out of place, the finger will never return to normal, and he will require an operation at some point.
- Martinez said Spain's players wanted to decide the final before a shootout, and that he believed Argentina would have won on penalties.
- He stated he intends to return from his broken jaw during the next international break to play for Argentina.
