Egypt's Minister of Endowments Osama Al-Azhari has opened training courses for imams in Cairo, part of a plan to train about 1,000 imams monthly.
- Al-Azhari opened the "Foundations of Moderate Thought" and "Improving Linguistic Performance" courses at mosques in Helwan and Al-Muqattam in Cairo.
- The ministry said the plan targets training about 1,000 imams monthly through training units to be expanded across governorates.
- The two programs, 50 hours each, total 100 training hours and include tests with cash prizes for the top three participants.
- Al-Azhari said countering extremism requires a correct understanding of religious texts and tools to refute misinterpretations.
