Egypt's telecom regulator has announced a doubled basic internet package and network expansion covering fiber-optic lines and mobile towers.
- NTRA spokesperson Mohammed Ibrahim said the basic fixed-internet package doubled from 50 GB to 100 GB at the same 150-pound price, effective November 1.
- Ibrahim said the regulator met with service providers to implement the change after the Egypt Forum 2026 recommendation.
- Ibrahim said more than 5.5 million landlines have been converted to fiber-optic networks, with 6 million more planned over three years.
- Ibrahim said mobile towers increased from about 24,000 in 2021 to about 38,000, with a target of 40,000 by year-end.
- Ibrahim said the doubled package benefits about 13 million households, with all service providers keeping prices unchanged.
- Ibrahim said 5G services are expanding gradually, with more than 5,000 towers currently offering 5G coverage.
- Ibrahim said the authority receives about 125,000 complaints monthly via short code 155 and digital channels.
