New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has threatened legal action against federal immigration agents over their use of city-owned parking lots to stage operations.
- On Monday, Mamdani threatened legal action against ICE in a letter to the Trump administration over agents' use of city-owned parking lots in Queens and the Bronx.
- The letter said the practice "is unauthorized and is therefore illegal, endangers City residents, and sows fear among those who seek to access City property."
- A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said ICE's presence in public parking lots "is fully authorized under federal law" and standard practice nationwide.
- The dispute follows Mamdani's February executive order barring federal agents from city lots without a warrant and the October 8 shooting of Oscar Belgal, a Dominican-born man, by an ICE officer.
