Egypt's gold and jewelry division has proposed a unified purchase-documentation form to protect dealers after two Alexandria shop owners were arrested for buying gold stolen in Fayoum.
- The division's meeting at Alexandria's Chamber of Commerce on November 1 recommended submitting the form to the Federation's head for approval, then to the Interior Ministry.
- Two brothers were arrested for stealing gold bars worth 3.5 million Egyptian pounds from a Fayoum jewelry shop and selling them to two Alexandria dealers, who were also detained.
- The form records the seller's name, national ID, piece specifications, price, and a declaration holding the seller legally responsible for the gold.
- Division head Hani Milad said the two dealers bought the bars in good faith with invoices and should not face the same accountability as theft offenders.
