Jordan's House of Representatives has elected Ibrahim Al-Tarawneh as speaker of its 20th parliament, making the two Tarawneh brothers the first siblings to hold the post.
- Al-Tarawneh won 70 votes against 38 for Majhem Al-Soqour and 23 for Suleiman Al-Zaben, with seven ballots invalidated.
- Al-Soqour accused the government of interfering in the selection arrangements, saying the speaker must be the product of MPs' free will.
- Al-Tarawneh said parliamentary oversight is not enmity with the government and cooperation with it is not subordination.
- Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan congratulated Al-Tarawneh and affirmed the government's commitment to implementing the king's directives with the parliament.
