North Korea has denied US accusations that it was behind the $6.3 billion hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, calling the claims a political provocation.
- The FBI on Saturday attributed the hack to TraderTraitor, the state-backed North Korean group also known as Lazarus Group.
- Kim Yo-jong, sister of leader Kim Jong Un, called the claims a "grave political provocation" and "absurd rhetoric."
- TRM Labs said attackers moved most of the $6.3 billion in assets within 20 minutes, apparently seeking to prevent freezing.
- Officials described the breach as the largest crypto hack in history, exceeding the $1.5 billion Bybit theft of 2025 blamed on the same group.
- Binance announced it will resume withdrawals of more digital assets across several networks from 04:00 GMT Tuesday after the hack.
- The exchange said it will cover the $6.3 billion losses from its own resources without affecting user funds.
- Clients have withdrawn $4.72 billion since withdrawals resumed, roughly 3% of the assets on the platform.
