Israel's five-party opposition bloc met Tuesday in Herzliya and agreed to back former military chief Gadi Eisenkot as prime minister.
- The five party leaders met for the first time since the October 27 election, which left the 120-seat Knesset without a governing majority.
- In a joint statement they pledged to form a government as quickly as possible, avoid new elections, and uphold Eisenkot's four principles, including labeling Hamas a terrorist group.
- Netanyahu on Monday called for a broad national government under his leadership and ruled out a coalition with Arab-majority lists.
- The bloc remains split over Arab-led parties, which hold 19 of the 120 seats: Yair Golan backed an alliance, while Avigdor Liberman firmly opposed one.
