Rory McIlroy has backed DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings' claim that LIV Golf aimed to destroy the European circuit, as the breakaway tour faces bankruptcy.
- McIlroy, speaking Wednesday in Abu Dhabi, said LIV "took players, took sponsors" and that its representatives "wanted to destroy the European Tour."
- Kinnings said golfers who sign up for "LIV 2.0" will not be eligible for the DP World Tour in 2027, requiring them to play on one tour or the other.
- LIV Golf filed for bankruptcy protection in October after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund withdrew funding, and players Jon Rahm and Sergio García have departed.
- McIlroy said LIV was "always going to be good for a few years" until it produced no return on investment, and called for a reset in men's golf.
