First deep-brain mapping unit opens at Al-Azhar University hospital

Al-Azhar University has opened the first deep-brain mapping unit at an Egyptian university to diagnose refractory epilepsy cases.

• President Mahmoud Seddik inaugurated the unit in the neurology department of Al-Zahraa University Hospital.
• Al-Azhar University and the Arab Board of Neurophysiology signed a cooperation protocol on surgical diagnosis of refractory epilepsy.
• Seddik said the unit is a first for Egyptian universities and their university hospitals.
• Dean Eman al-Shal said the unit is the first specialized facility in Egypt for detecting epilepsy cases.
