Nithya Raman, a democratic socialist and city councilmember, has defeated incumbent Karen Bass to become Los Angeles's next mayor.
- Raman led Bass with just over 52 percent of the vote to 48 percent, and Bass conceded the race on Thursday.
- The win means New York and Los Angeles, the US's two largest cities, will both be led by democratic socialist mayors next year.
- Raman has vowed to cut street homelessness in half before Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympics.
- National DSA organizers voted 14-13 against rescinding the Los Angeles chapter's endorsement of Raman over her stance on Israel.
