Saudi Arabia has denied a Wall Street Journal report claiming Houthi rebels demanded $51 billion and recognition as Yemen's rulers to halt the decade-long war.
- Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Raed Qurmli on Thursday categorically denied the report, calling it baseless and "fabricated" by its authors.
- Qurmli said the Houthis overthrew Yemen's government, attacked ships in the Red Sea, and rejected all peace efforts, adding that Yemen has a recognized government.
- The Wall Street Journal reported, citing unidentified sources, that the Houthis demanded $51 billion to cover years of Saudi strikes and the blockade.
- Saudi writer Abdulrahman Al-Rashed dismissed the reported figure as "illogical and mythical," saying Houthi demands previously did not exceed $1 billion.
