Egypt's water resources minister Hani Sewilam toured Gharbia on Friday to inspect the irrigation system and ordered bridge maintenance and a land-use study.
- Sewilam inspected the Bahr Seif canal, the Dima feeding station off the Tala drain, and the Bagouriya canal in Kafr El-Zayat.
- He directed maintenance work on the km 71 bridge over the Bagouriya canal and a study of the Qasta bridge's status.
- He ordered a study on the best use of a Bahr Seif utility land plot for the area's residents.
- Farmers and the Kafr El-Zayat irrigation associations secretary told him irrigation water reaches their fields regularly year-round.
- Sewilam said he made the Gharbia visit immediately upon returning from Côte d'Ivoire, after an August 2024 visit to the end of Bahr Seif.
- Sewilam said water delivery and rotation schedules in Kafr El-Zayat had improved compared with previous years and farmer complaints had declined.
