Macau has sentenced former pro-democracy legislator Au Kam-san to 12 years and six months in the city's first national security trial, held behind closed doors.
- The court convicted Au, 69, of subversion against state power on Friday, finding him guilty on four of seven charges after a three-day trial.
- Prosecutors had accused Au of working with "external hostile organisations" to disseminate information of a subversive nature against the state.
- Au's wife, Virginia Cheang, said the case was a political trial and a "groundless persecution" designed to humiliate him.
- Au was arrested in July 2025 and had served 20 years in Macau's legislature before resigning in 2021.
