A jury convicted Russell Brand of rape and three sexual assaults, and his barrister Ian Winter KC has reported himself to his regulator over an exchange with a journalist outside court.
- A jury at Southwark Crown Court found Brand guilty of raping a 21-year-old fan in 2009 and sexually assaulting three women between 2004 and 2009; he was cleared of two further rape charges and one attempted indecent assault allegation.
- Winter told Sunday Times journalist Rosamund Urwin outside the courtroom on Thursday that he hoped she was "pleased with yourself," and said "well, it wasn't" when she replied that justice had been done.
- Winter said on Friday he had self-reported the allegations to the Bar Standards Board, stating his professional duty required it so the matter could "be subject to proper scrutiny."
- Brand, 51, is in custody and due to be sentenced on Monday.
- Andy Burnham said Russell Brand had "rightly been held to account" for "horrific" crimes and told the BBC he had no idea of their full extent.
- Comedian Katherine Ryan said she felt "grief and relief" after the conviction, describing a "very nuanced mix of emotions" among women reacting to the verdict.
- Police have said Brand is also being investigated over further rape allegations made by two additional women.
