Killing of drug lord’s brother in Ecuador

Men disguised as police officers killed David Macías, brother of Ecuador’s most notorious drug lord Adolfo “Fito” Macías.

• David Macías was shot dead in his rented home in Olón, on Ecuador’s Pacific coast, during the early hours of Sunday.
• Police said David Macías was a regional leader of Los Choneros, the gang formerly headed by his brother.
• Officials stated no arrests have been made and the gunmen fled after the attack.
• Adolfo Macías, extradited to the United States last year, is awaiting trial on drug-trafficking charges.
