Divine Playhouse in Sydney ordered to cancel LGBTQ+ events after landlord cites religious objections

A former church-turned-LGBTQ+ venue in Sydney has been ordered by its landlord to cease operations following protests from Christian groups.

• Divine Playhouse opened last Wednesday in a deconsecrated Sydney church as an inclusive arts space.
• The landlord sent a notice of breach claiming the venue engaged in "offensive trade" and ordered it to cease by Saturday.
• The venue cancelled weekend events and its Instagram accounts were taken down due to complaints.
• Religious groups, including the Prodigal Sons and Fit for the Kingdom, said the selection of a former church was deliberate and that the material "wounded a community of faith."
