Chandrayaan-1 scientists switch off instruments as onboard temperature rises

Scientists have switched off several instruments on India's first lunar orbiter after temperatures rose to 49 degrees Celsius.

• Project director Mylswamy Annadurai said the temperature rise was caused by the alignment of the craft, moon, and sun.
• Annadurai ruled out damage to the spacecraft and said the temperature had fallen to 40 degrees Celsius.
• The orbiter, launched on October 22, is on a two-year mission to image the moon's surface and search for water.
