Two tankers were hit by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz and east of Oman on Friday, extending threats to shipping in the strategic waterway.
- Britain's Maritime Trade Operations said a tanker was struck by an unspecified projectile while leaving the Strait of Hormuz, causing a small fire and power loss.
- Hours later, a crude oil tanker reported a hit by an unknown projectile east of Oman, with no crew injuries reported in either incident.
- Hassan Qashqavi, spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said a new draft law would require ships of non-hostile states to obtain permits to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
- Qashqavi said the bill would bar transit by Israeli vessels and ships of states Iran considers hostile, or those carrying military cargoes.
- Britain's Maritime Trade Operations said the tanker struck east of Oman was hit on its left side about 4 nautical miles from the coast, with no environmental damage reported.
