Egypt Bakeries Syndicate Rejects Remarks by Grocers' Union Spokesperson on Subsidised Bread System

Khaled Fekry, head of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce Bakeries Division, has rejected remarks made by grocers' union leader Magdy Nadi on the subsidised bread system.

• Fekry stated that Nadi's televised remarks on bread system operations were unauthorised and that only the Bakeries Division and official syndicate bodies represent bakers.
• Nadi said the state loses at least 25 percent of total subsidy value due to the current in-kind system, citing handling and transport costs.
• Fekry said the subsidised bread system is governed by an integrated legal and regulatory framework overseen by the Ministry of Supply and that complaints are handled through official channels, not media statements.
• Fekry called on all parties to respect institutional responsibilities and warned against speaking on behalf of bakery owners without authorisation.
