Glasgow City Council has reached a pay and grading agreement with Unison, averting a threatened fire-and-rehire exercise affecting 23,000 workers.
- The council notified 23,000 non-teaching staff last month they risked dismissal and reappointment after Unison refused to ballot its members.
- The council agreed to protect pay for three years for the 11% of staff the original proposal would have cut.
- Unison said unresolved issues, including equality impacts, will be negotiated as it ballots members this month.
- Council leader Ricky Bell said the deal removed the fire-and-rehire threat and that GMB and Unite will also put it to members.
