R&A warns Open fans that abuse will result in ejection under new code

The R&A has warned that spectators who abuse players at The Open will be identified and removed from the venue under a new code of conduct.

• Mark Darbon, R&A chairman, confirmed that a team of officials will monitor the expected 300,000 spectators at Royal Birkdale.
• Darbon said the R&A will use ejection rather than fines for spectators who step over the line.
• Darbon stated that tee-off times for Sunday's round are unlikely to change before the World Cup final, with a final decision on Thursday.
• Sir Nick Faldo has called for spectators who abuse players to be fined $10,000, a proposal the R&A has not endorsed.
