EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the bloc's Red Sea naval mission Aspides needs more than 10 warships, more than are currently deployed.
- Kallas told journalists on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that Aspides needs at least 10 warships.
- Diplomats said Kallas last week sent a letter to EU member states requesting additional naval and air capabilities for the region.
- Launched in 2024 to protect shipping from Houthi attacks in Yemen, the mission currently deploys six warships, diplomats said.
