Uruguayan football has introduced electronic cards for the first time, with referee Eduardo Varela showing the first virtual yellow card during a Nacional match.
- The device was first used Thursday in Nacional's 3-0 win over Rentistas in the Uruguay Cup round of 16.
- Referee Eduardo Varela showed the first yellow card to Juan Pablo Blada in the 12th minute using a tablet-like device.
- Uruguayan Football Federation refereeing director Marcelo de León said the device records cards, substitutions and penalties without WiFi.
