China's finance ministry has announced a 300 billion yuan ($44.25 billion) special treasury bond issue to strengthen the capital of eight state-owned financial institutions.
- The finance ministry announced Monday it will issue special treasury bonds to boost Tier-1 capital at eight institutions, including the Export-Import Bank of China and four commercial insurers.
- The eight institutions plan to raise or receive a combined 360 billion yuan, with ICBC and the Agricultural Bank of China seeking up to 260 billion yuan through private A-share placements.
- The finance ministry said the recapitalization would increase the institutions' risk resilience and their capacity to support China's economic growth.
