Egypt's Doctors Syndicate has convened its general assembly in Cairo to weigh proposed curbs on medical school admissions, including a disputed 50% entry threshold.
- Registration opened Friday morning at Dar al-Hikma in Cairo for the assembly's second session, with proceedings due to begin at 2 PM.
- Osama Abdel Hay, syndicate head, said the assembly will review recommendations on admission rules, including accepting students with scores from 50% at some international branches.
- The recommendations would halt random expansion of medical schools and require a complete university hospital before new schools open.
- They set a minimum admission threshold for private and national medical schools no lower than five percentage points below public school minimums.
- The assembly will also review the syndicate's financial reports and budgets for 2022 through 2025, alongside the estimated 2026 budget.
