New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has ordered a comprehensive review of NYPD use-of-force policies, the first in about a decade, alongside new accountability reforms.
- Mamdani announced $2.6m in additional funding for the Office of the Inspector General and changes to resolve disciplinary hearings before officers retire.
- Officer Salvatore Alongi retired in May, halting a disciplinary case over the 2024 fatal shooting of 19-year-old Win Rozario.
- Patrick Hendry, president of the Patrolmen's Association, opposed the review, citing the Civilian Complaint Review Board's "blatantly biased" interpretations.
- Reported NYPD use-of-force incidents rose to 12,348 in 2025 from 4,087 in 2016.
