Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has criticised government plans to extend the residency wait for foreign care workers, days before Labour's annual conference.
- Rayner told the Times the reforms "change the goalposts" for care workers who "moved their lives here to look after our loved ones," calling the change "very disruptive."
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the government will set out its new settlement policy, with any transitional arrangements, later this year.
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering exempting care workers already in the UK from the new rules, which more than 100 Labour MPs have opposed.
- Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy rejected describing the plans as "un-British," saying Labour reserves the right to change its mind or stick to its plans.
