Palestinian ambassador says ending occupation is the only solution to crisis

Palestinian Ambassador to Italy Mona Abu Amara told Italian news agency Nova that the Palestinian cause is primarily political and that ending Israeli occupation is necessary to address the root of the crisis.

• Abu Amara said Italian government initiatives including university corridors, evacuation of wounded, and a study project have supported Gaza.
• She called for opening Gaza crossings to allow thousands of children to receive medical treatment and said UNRWA is irreplaceable.
• She welcomed European Union discussions on restricting Israeli settlement products and said continued settlement undermines peace.
• She said the Palestinian Authority is the legitimate representative and that Gaza's future cannot be separated from the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
