Health department estimates reveal that 241,000 NDIS participants will be shifted off the scheme by June 2031, with most having autism.
- Health department documents released under freedom of information show 144,600 participants with autism or developmental delays will lose eligibility by 2031.
- From 2028, almost two-thirds of those removed will be aged 18 or under, according to the documents.
- NDIS Minister Mark Butler said the scheme is intended only for people with "significant and permanent disability" and is growing too fast.
- The Thriving Kids program will start in October to support children under nine shifted off the NDIS.
