Egypt's national railway authority has opened 45 subscription windows at 29 main stations as a new discounted passenger and student subscription system takes effect.
- The authority allocated the windows across 29 stations including Cairo, Alexandria, Assiut, Luxor, and Aswan, alongside the start of the new subscription system.
- The authority announced discounts of up to 50% for general public subscriptions and 86.25% for students.
- Student applicants must have their subscription request stamped by their school or university and provide a national ID copy plus two recent photos.
- The authority said subscriptions are personal to the holder, and use by anyone else results in cancellation and legal proceedings.
- Public subscriptions now allow 40 monthly trips, down from 50, covering distances up to 500 km.
- Student subscriptions run for nine months on air-conditioned and dynamic-ventilation third-class and Tahya Misr trains, with training-period ones capped at three months and 400 km.
