Former world boxing champion Joe Cordina is standing trial at Cardiff Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of assault over a February brawl.
- Cordina, charged over a 27 February incident at a Texaco garage in Pentwyn, faces allegations he punched Jamie O'Brien, who has admitted one assault charge.
- Prosecutor Alex Orndal told the court Cordina "initiated the confrontation," striking O'Brien after being pushed with a shoulder rather than in self-defense.
- Cordina denied the offence in a police interview, saying he "felt threatened" and punched out of "instinct" due to O'Brien's actions.
- Defense barrister Tom Crowther said O'Brien's sister told police her brother "hated" Cordina and feared he had "sought out" the boxer; the trial continues.
