More than 5,000 supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan have begun marching from northwest Pakistan toward Islamabad demanding his release.
- Supporters set off from Lakki Marwat on Sunday after two rounds of talks with the government ended in deadlock.
- KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the march will reach a town 80km west of Islamabad by Thursday, where next-phase plans will be announced.
- Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi accused Afridi of sabotaging negotiations and warned the government would pursue protesters violating a court order barring road occupations.
- PTI said talks failed because authorities rejected its request for access to Khan and a demand for his immediate medical examination.
- Authorities deployed thousands of police and paramilitary troops and placed shipping containers on roads to block the march.
- The march was postponed from its original September 27 date to Sunday before supporters set off.
