Former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega has announced he will contest next year's FIFA presidential election, becoming the first challenger to Gianni Infantino.
- Vega, 55, declared his candidacy in a statement, saying he aims to reunite the global football family and deliver genuine reform.
- Vega said the current leadership has demoralised the game and that weak governance has damaged FIFA's credibility.
- Infantino said last month he was "fully committed to leading Fifa" despite Uefa, Concacaf and the AFC calling for his resignation.
- Vega failed to secure a ballot place in the 2019 election, having needed backing from five of FIFA's 211 member federations.
- Vega also failed to secure the required backing of five member federations in 2015 and 2022.
- The FIFA presidential election is scheduled for March 18 in Rabat, Morocco.
