Egypt's Ministry of Education has issued a circular to educational directorates setting rules to fill the teacher shortage in official schools for the 2026/2027 academic year.
- The circular allows recruiting holders of higher pedagogical qualifications and teachers above their quota at 50 Egyptian pounds per session, financed from allocations sent to directorates.
- It caps hired hourly teachers at 20 sessions weekly and requires that appointed teachers' full legal quota be fulfilled before such hiring.
- The higher-degree requirement may be waived for vocational and practical subject trainers who present at least five years of work experience in the specialization.
- Hourly teachers may participate in exam supervision only, with each exam session calculated at the financial value of two teaching sessions.
