The World Health Organization reported a sharp rise in suspected cholera and measles cases in Yemen amid intensifying conflict and displacement.
- WHO said suspected cholera cases tripled in three weeks, rising from 217 to 647, after the August 6 escalation displaced more than 200,000 people.
- Yemen has reported 8,034 suspected cholera cases and 27 deaths this year, along with 22,800 suspected measles cases and 128 deaths.
- WHO said it had secured only $3.78 million of the $31 million needed for its 90-day emergency response in Yemen.
- WHO emergency director Annette Heinzelmann said that without urgent funding and access to safe water and vaccination, outbreaks could spread rapidly among vulnerable communities.
