Egypt's Medical Syndicate has held an expanded meeting and drawn up legislative proposals to regulate admission to medical colleges and protect education quality.
- The syndicate, chaired by Osama Abdel-Hay, convened senior professors, scientific society heads and provincial syndicate heads to discuss medical education rules.
- Abdel-Hay said the syndicate documented Egyptian students returning from Ukraine enrolled in medical colleges despite holding literary-track high school certificates.
- Participants demanded amending Article 2, clause 3 of Law 163/2018 so international university branches follow national medical admission standards.
- Participants demanded halting new admissions at medical colleges lacking university hospitals from next academic year, referring recommendations to parliament, cabinet and the higher education ministry.
- The syndicate's move follows an admissions crisis involving students with a 50% pass rate in the secondary school certificate.
