Egypt's Dar al-Ifta holds workshop with Fahm foundation to correct mental-health misconceptions

Egypt's Dar al-Ifta has held a workshop with the Fahm psychological support foundation to help fatwa officers account for questioners' mental health.

• Grand Mufti Nazir Muhammad Ayyad, Nabila Makram, and psychiatrist Abd al-Nasser Omar attended the workshop.
• Ayyad said dealing with humanitarian issues requires conscious understanding of questioners' psychological and social circumstances.
• Makram stressed partnership between religious and mental-health institutions to correct misconceptions and confront social stigma.
• Omar said not everyone with a psychological disorder loses the capacity for awareness or decision-making.
