Arlington County's governing board has sued the Interior Department and National Park Service to block Trump's proposed 250-foot "Triumphal arch" near Arlington National Cemetery.
- The board filed the suit Thursday in the Eastern District of Virginia, joined by the nonprofit Democracy Forward.
- The lawsuit alleges the National Park Service conducted only a "cursory and conclusory" review and that the arch would clog corridors needed for emergency transport.
- The National Capital Planning Commission is scheduled to consider final approval of the arch on November 5, after prior approval by the Commission of Fine Arts.
- A separate federal lawsuit by veterans and preservation groups has prompted a judge to require 48 hours' notice before any construction.
