Earl Spencer has insisted King Charles told him "we'll forget her soon enough" after Diana's death, rejecting a Buckingham Palace rebuttal to his upcoming memoir.
- In a BBC interview, Earl Spencer said the words he attributes to Charles are "exactly the words he said," describing the King as having "gone ballistic" during the phone call.
- Buckingham Palace had said the King was "mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason… and colour memory"; it declined to respond to Spencer's fresh comments.
- Spencer's memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, due next week, claims Charles made the remark during an argument over whether Princes William and Harry should walk in Diana's funeral procession.
