Renewed fighting between Ethiopia's federal forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front has spread across three northern regions, shattering the 2022 Pretoria Agreement.
- The pro-government Tigray Peace Force said its fighters and the national army captured Alamata, a strategic town about 120km south of Mekelle.
- The TPLF announced a "defensive war" and launched a major offensive last week, seizing airports at Mekelle, Axum and Shire and pushing into the Afar and Amhara regions.
- Afar's governor told Al Jazeera that Eritrean forces were participating in the fighting and controlled more than two-thirds of the region.
- Doctors Without Borders said wounded patients at the Korem and Alamata hospitals rose from 180 to more than 420 within 48 hours.
