Manchester City supporters have revived the inflatable banana tradition as a counter-protest following the club's guilty verdict for Premier League financial breaches.
- City fans displayed hundreds of inflatable bananas at Anfield last Sunday and repeated the display during Saturday's home match against Ipswich Town.
- The practice began in the 1987-88 season, when a fan brought a banana to Maine Road honoring striker Imre Varadi, nicknamed "Imre Banana."
- Manager Enzo Maresca told reporters Friday he hopes to see many bananas in the stadium, saying his four sons have asked him to bring them.
- The club has ordered about 11,000 inflatable bananas from Varadi's company and invited him as a special guest, The Sun reported.
