(opens the publisher’s site)Cairo Criminal Court sentenced artistic producer Sara Khalifa and 11 co-defendants to death by hanging and a 500,000 EGP fine for running an organized drug-trafficking gang.

Khalifa said she will file an appeal within days against the ruling, which also covered charges of possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Investigators ordered banks to freeze Khalifa's and the co-defendants' assets and accounts, and placed two fugitive defendants on travel-ban and border-watch lists.

Authorities seized more than 750 kg of drugs and raw materials, with the case built on statements from 20 witnesses and digital evidence.
