Australia's conservative opposition has pledged to cut net overseas migration to 100,000 a year if it wins the 2028 election.
- Opposition leader Angus Taylor announced the plan, which would hold net overseas migration at 100,000 a year in the coalition's first two years in government.
- The coalition would also cut temporary visa holders by about 650,000 over four years and halve humanitarian places to 10,000 a year from 20,000.
- Official data published last month showed net overseas migration reached 292,100 in the year to March.
- Business group Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry head Andrew McKellar said arbitrary migration targets would hurt the economy.
