UN condemns racist abuse of Coco Gauff, says Black female athletes are specifically targeted

The UN human rights office condemned racist online abuse of tennis player Coco Gauff, saying Black female athletes are specifically targeted for vitriol and racial abuse.

• High Commissioner Volker Türk's office said the messages were "appalling" and illustrate that Black female athletes are specifically targeted for racial abuse.
• Gauff said she received an "insane" amount of racist comments after a controversial point against Sun Xinran at the China Open on Monday.
• Gauff lost to Elise Mertens two days later, saying she had "no energy" and felt she would pass out.
• Gauff withdrew from the Wuhan Open, saying after a long year her body needs time to rest and recover.
