Clearlake Capital has completed its takeover of Chelsea, buying out co-owners Todd Boehly and Mark Walter to gain full control of the Premier League club.
- Boehly and Mark Walter each held a 12.8% stake in Chelsea, with Clearlake previously owning 61.5% of the club.
- Boehly will leave his role as chairman, a position he has held since the ownership group bought the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022.
- Chelsea said there will be "no changes to the day-to-day operations, leadership or strategy" as a result of the transition.
- The BBC reported Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss also sold his stake, but Chelsea said he remains an important stakeholder and partner.
- The deal values Chelsea at £5 billion, compared with the £2.5 billion the ownership group paid in 2022.
- The takeover follows reported friction among Chelsea's co-owners, which precipitated the ownership change.
- Boehly said he was honored to have led the club and expressed confidence in Chelsea's future under Clearlake's leadership.
